KAKINADA: A major scam has unfolded in land acquisition relating to Polavaram Project. Officials paid a compensation of Rs. 6 crore to 21 “fake” farmers for “82 acres of Konda Podu land” in K Veeravaram village of Chinaramanaiapheta panchayat in Dandangi area of Devipatnam mandal in Alluri Seetharama Raju District. According to sources, officers of the Polavaram project left main canal project (LA) paid Rs. 6,17,77,500 for 82.37 acres of land to 21 farmers. The deal was fake and a case of misappropriation of government funds.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to take strict action against those responsible for the food poisoning incident at the Devarapalli Ashram boys’ hostel in Rampachodavaram of Polavaram district, where 92 students fell ill after consuming breakfast on Saturday. The chief minister reviewed the incident with CMO officials and senior officers, who briefed him on the sequence of events. The officials explained that the students developed symptoms such as vomiting, stomach pain, fever and diarrhoea. The affected students were immediately shifted to Maredumilli and Rampachodavaram hospitals and their health condition is reported to be stable.

A 50-year-old single woman was gang-raped and murdered by three persons in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. The incident happened in Vemavaram village in Polavaram block. The police have detained one of the suspects and are on the hunt for the other two. The ghastly crime close on the heels of the gang-rape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinarian in Hyderabad. According to the police, the woman stays alone as her husband and son passed away. Her daughter-in-law stays separately.

Anakapalli: Three boat accidents in a row have become a serious cause for concern among the fishing community and the officials concerned who have intensified their strategies to prevent accidents from recurring.History While two boat capsizing accidents occurred off Visakhapatnam coast, another incident happened in Puri, Odisha as a boat developed a technical snag. In another tragic boat capsizing incident that occurred at Revu Polavaram coast in Anakapalli district, a fisherman drowned on Monday. Identified as Chodipalli Simhadri, he was among the four fishermen who ventured into the sea for fishing in the early hours of Monday. While one fisherman was drowned, another three were reached ashore. However, the body of the deceased was traced near Bangarammapalem beach. According to sources, the incident happened after a few of the fishermen were caught in a rope and lost control. Owing to low-pressure along the Bay of Bengal, officials concerned alerted fishermen against venturing into the sea. Meanwhile, fishermen Association union leaders demanded compensation for the bereaved family members of Chodipalli Simhadri as he was the sole bread winner of his family.

In a yet another attack on cattle, a male tiger, Explorer, killed 14 calves in Indukuru village in Polavaram district in the early hours of Wednesday. Earlier on May 29, the tiger, which was rehabilitated in the Papikonda National Park from native landscape of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, reportedly killed nine cattle.
